SCDC BACK GROUND

Sakhile Community Development Centre (SCDC) was formally registered as a non-profit organization with the National Department of Social Development we are based   in Nquthu (too poor and rural area of Kwa-Ngedla) with the main aim of youth empowerment initiatives in youth skills development, combating poverty,   reducing unemployment and creating jobs that  the Hon President Zuma in his   State of the Nation address 2011/12 outlined; where he made a call for all   South Africans to wake up and do something, so we as youth and community of   Nquthu are responding to His Excellency’s call by furthering the objectives   of this organization which focuses mainly in youth skills development.

SCDC ACHIEVEMENTS

1.    The KZN Department of Social

Development have   initially supported us with a donation of just above R200 000 to kick start   our projects of uplifting the youth skills which is very desperate in a very   too rural area of Nquthu and they are now deeply engaged in drugs, alcohol   and involved in serious criminal activities that are not societal acceptable   which lead among other things high rate of teenage pregnancies.

2. With the above funding we have managed to   identify 50 youth

persons, this youth is currently at Mthashana   FET College studying various courses that will change their lives for better;

3. We have managed to secure in year

2012, 31   bursaries of students who are currently studying their first years   in UNISA Pietermaritzburg a 4-year university degree.

4.    In the year 2012 SCDC Managing

Director – Mr Sakhile Manyathi on

various occasions was   liveon uKhozi FM after this big radio station saw   something good out of this NPO, and

then they decided to host him on various

live radio talk shows mainly on Youth Keyona – Sunday Programme.

5.    Resulting from the above radio

interviews the Old   Mutual Group sponsored us with their Financial Literacy and other   progressive training

on our youth; certificates issued by BankSETA were   received by attendees.

6.    We organized a massive and successful SCDC   Nquthu Career Exhibition on 15 September 2012, which was attended by so many   corporate and government departments.

I   want to thank Transnet NPA Durban, KZN   Office of the Premier, KZN Dept of

Agriculture and Environmental Affairs,  for making our Career Expo happen, without   you, this could have not happened

 7.    Currently we employed 3 permanent   people under our organization i.e. 2x ECD Teachers and 1x SCDC Administrator without the SCDC these people wouldn't be getting salaries   month end.

 8.    Resulting from the training we sponsored the   learners to do various

courses; some of our sewing students have   since opened their own small business of sewing and generating income for   them and their families.

9.  In 2013 we finished building the new state of the art Early Child

Development (ECD) Centre in our community, whole building budget contributed   directly from community members' pocket; we didn't wait for Government but the Government must meet us on our way towards our rural   development initiatives. The ECD is fully operational since January 2014 with   two teachers.
